Small Is the New Big!

Have you notice that small is the new trend? I personally enjoy going out to intimate places where you have almost the feeling you are in someone’s home. I don’t like places with white table cloth and pompous ambient, but thanks to some people visions, there’s plenty of cool places to go now where you can have a glass of wine and enjoy some little nosh. My favorites are “Casa Mono” (Spanish dishes) very flavorful and you can sit just in front of the chef and watch him cooking your food. The place is very small but with clever design. “Momofuko” also one of my favorite spots, has an open kitchen with arranged counter like seating right across from the young, hard working chefs working tediously as the orders come piling up. “Mary’s Fish Camp” a cute café with delicious seafood (try the oysters Po Boy). My favorite wine bar is actually a neighborhood place here at the East Village that I don’t even know its name. We just call it “our wine bar”. It’s a really nice place serving Italian antipasti, the guy serving the wine knows me by the name. Can’t get more intimate than that. The best coffee shop now is from an extremely small place called “Abraco” in the East Village. the place doesn’t even have a tables or chairs (it’s more like a tiny kiosk), but Jamie is an expert in espresso making, and there’s a girl baking delicious homemade and tasty cakes. It’s a very small place you have a little counter outside on the sidewalk to eat, but believe me it’s a must try. And the good music you hear in the store is vinyl, playing off a turntable…how cool is THAT? Last weekend I discovered  “Baked By Melissa”. A window at Spring Street selling little bite-sized cupcakes. The line is always huge; it’s a tremendous success with the ladies. The cupcake is so small you can hardly feel guilty about it.
